Why do I sew? First, let me confess a few things: I’m a recovering shopaholic, fashionista, trendsetter, style maven and InStyle, Vogue, and W Magazine addict. How did I recover you ask? Well let’s see.
I got married, had a baby,
reprioritized my life, read my Bible,
had twins, became a SAHM,
read my Bible some more, got on a budget,
had another baby, wrote a book,
continued to read my Bible, had another baby,
started a business, had another baby
…all in a seven year period. Whew!
Now, truth be told, it sounds like a lot, but the time went by so quickly that I kind of got lost in the momentum. I didn’t realize at the time that this worldwind of activity was actually weening me from my preocupation with all things “fashionable” until one day I looked down and realized that my my beautifully tailored business suit had been replaced by my husband’s old t-shirt sporting fresh peanut butter stains and chocolate milk. (Trust me…not a pretty picture) But the amazing thing was that I was okay with it. I actually welcomed the departure from trying to live up to my own perception of myself or how I thought others viewed me. It was in that moment that I finally understood that although good grooming is a must, preocupation with one’s appearance can be a hindrance and throw you way off balance.
This is why I started sewing. It gives me balance, and is a great creative outlet. I also didn’t want to go into debt trying to clothe my little ones. Quality clothing is very important to me, but nearly imposible to find unless you’re willing to pay boutique prices (200% retail markups x 6 ? – I don’ t think so). Sewing allows me to supplement some of my clothing purchases while helping me fill that need for creative expression that I crave. I only have a year’s experience, but with so much availabe information on the net (Thank you to all of you wonderful people who take the time to post tutorials!), I’m hoping to increase my limited skills.
This is my latest project:
I’m so glad that my girls are only 5 right now. They love everthing that Mommy makes!!!

I have that Tracy Porter fabric too! I adore it (and with a coupon it’s a steal)! That pattern is so cute I can’t wait to see the finished product.
